National Volunteer Week 20-26 May 2019 (WA)

National Volunteer Week (NVW), the annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations, is nearly upon us and Volunteering WA would like to personally invite you to share in this exciting week with us, now in its 30th year.

From 20–26 May 2019, thousands of events will be held across the country to say thank you to the 6 million Australians who volunteer their time. The week-long celebration will include breakfasts, morning/afternoon teas, and luncheons, as well as open days, award ceremonies, picnics, forums and training sessions.

Here in Western Australia, many volunteers involving organisations are holding celebration events with thanks to a grant from Lotterywest and we encourage anyone attending an event to share photos with us on our social media pages via @volunteeringwa #NVW2019 #makingaworldofdifference.

If you would like to attend a public event please visit https://www.volunteeringaustralia.org/get-involved/nvw/ to see what’s on during the week both in metro Perth and regional areas.

If you are around our beautiful capital city this week, we encourage you to visit and view the significant buildings listed below. They will be lit up in red, the colour of volunteering, in celebration of National Volunteer Week 2019. Please share your photos on our social media pages #NVW2019 @volunteeringWA.

  • Bell Tower (Mon 20 & Tues 21)
  • Parliament House (Mon 20)
  • Optus Stadium (Tues 21)
  • Matagarup Bridge (Tues 21)
  • Perth Concert Hall (Mon 20)

On Wednesday 22 May, at Crown Perth, Volunteering WA is hosting the WA Volunteer of the Year Awards to recognise and honour Western Australia’s outstanding volunteers. Many of you will be among the more than 350 guests celebrating with us as His Excellency Governor Honourable Kim Beazley presents awards to the deserving recipients at this inspiring event.

This event would not be possible without our valued award partners Bankwest, Community News, Department of Communities, Lotterywest, Office of Multicultural Interests, NeonLogic, Silver Chain and YMCA WA.

The theme for this year, “Making a world of difference”, speaks volumes to the contributions volunteers make to our great State and here at Volunteering WA, we are privileged and proud to be your peak body that represents 600,000 volunteers and over 700 member organisations.

Happy National Volunteer Week and thank you for the world of difference you all make.

Volunteering WA (VWA) is WA’s peak body for volunteering, connecting thousands of volunteers to community organisations across the State. VWA’s vision is for every Western Australian to enjoy a valued volunteering experience that enriches WA, through leading advancing and celebrating volunteering. Volunteers contribute $39 billion to WA’s economy each year, which is more valuable than many other major industries.
