MANDATE

Catholic Social Services Western Australia

The Bishops of Western Australia mandate Catholic Social Services Western Australia (CSSWA) to assist them in fulfilling their responsibilities in furthering the Mission of the Church in accordance with the beliefs, values, traditions and social teaching of the Catholic Church.

MISSION

To support and affirm Catholic social welfare agencies and organisations that provide assistance to the disadvantaged in our community.

Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead (James 2:14).

“Do good works, do not just say words that go to the wind.
Through the good works that we do … our faith germinates and bears fruit” (Pope Francis, 10 July 2016).

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Association is to assist the Catholic Church in Western Australia to:

  • Stand with and serve those who are disadvantaged and marginalized;
  • Work for a just, equitable and compassionate society;
  • Promote liaison and collaboration between Catholic social service providers operating in Western Australia;
  • Support Catholic Social Services Australia in their work, with particular reference to Western Australia;
  • Provide training opportunities for staff and volunteers working with Catholic social service providers to develop a deeper understanding of Catholic mission, values and ethos;
  • Be a conduit for Catholic organisations and agencies to access or provide training;WWork with key stakeholders to provide information on issues such as homelessness, indigenous issues, domestic violence and the minimum wage;
  • Provide a consensus approach to competitive tendering to avoid duplication of services whilst recognising the niche services that exist in the Catholic welfare system and
  • Represent the concerns of members of CSSWA to the relevant State Members of Parliament.

COUNCIL

The Council is appointed by the Bishops of Western Australia and governed by our endorsement of the Constitution which provides its brief to operate CSSWA.

DIRECTOR

The Director is appointed by the Archbishop of Perth, on behalf of the Bishops of Western Australia.
The Director is appointed to manage the day to day affairs of CSSWA.

TERM OF MANDATE

This Mandate is given for five years from the first of November 2018
