Employee and Volunteer of the Year Awards

ARCHBISHOP BJ HICKEY AWARD

SOCIAL OUTREACH

EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

Stella Lindsay

St Patrick’s Community Centre

Stella volunteer with such relentless determination and passion for 30 years in a service arena

of such complexity and engage daily and with empathy with those whose life adversities seem

overwhelming is itself an extraordinary achievement. Working at the coalface alongside women

and men who have so little and to know the significance of food, shelter and care in the lives of

all demonstrates how Stella embodies all aspects of Catholic Social Teaching – particularly the

pivotal one of treasuring human dignity. Solidarity with fellow human beings, appreciating the

essence of sharing each of our gifts and resources and contributing to the common good in

partnership with those who need these most, are palpable in the nomination.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Nada Clastres

Personal Advocacy Service

Nada has over 27 plus years worked to fulfil a vision that persons with intellectual disabilities

have all opportunities to be full members of and participants in the Catholic Church. Her faithful

devotion and commitment to helping her friend (the supported person) since 1992, Nada also

acknowledges that she has gained much from her interaction with her friend and over time a special

relationship has developed. Their mature relationship when they venture out into the wider

community, the ease of their interaction assists strangers to overcome theirs fears and anxieties.

In so doing, the greater community then becomes more open to share the gifts and talents of all.
